Cutting wood is a fun new material to work with with your cricut cutting machine.

Cricut has its own line of basswood which is nice and smooth and made to create optimal results with the knife blade.
A cricut explore machine can cut pretty much anything as long as it is 2 0mm thick or thinner.
There are a few things you need to know when cutting wood with a cricut however.
To do this click on custom materials this will bring up a list of materials the cricut can cut along with a recommended setting for each material.
Basswood comes in 1 32 and 1 16 thicknesses.
It can cut balsa wood with thicknesses of 1 32 1 16 and 3 32.
The cricut basswood is 1 16 and is what i used for.
Slowly run your fingers between the wood and the mat an inch at a time until the entire piece of wood has been removed from the mat.
For basswood it can cut 1 32 and 1 16.
The cricut maker can cut thin balsa wood and basswood.
You can cut basswood and balsa wood both with a knife blade.
However if you have an explore air 2 you might think that wood is not an option for you.
Yes the cricut maker can cut wood and it opens up a whole new world of crafting possibilities.
While the cricut explore air isn t technically the best for cutting wood it is possible and after a lot and i mean a lot of trial and error i think i finally figured out the best ways to cut balsa wood and basswood.
And if you have a cricut maker that machine has 10x the cutting force and can cut materials up to 2 4mm thick.
Expect to see knife blade impressions or cuts on the mat.
You can cut wood with the explore.
First make sure you set the dial on the machine to custom this is a screenshot of the cut screen you can see it was previously set to cardstock so you will need to change that.
Balsa wood comes in 1 32 1 16 and 3 32 thicknesses.
The cricut is great at cutting paper and cardstock but it doesn t just cut scrapbook paper.
